Where Have I Been?

Hello Everyone! I’m not sure if this blog is viewed by many, but I have been absent from the retail scene for a while. Life has been pretty busy since I started this blog in 8th grade. I will be a senior next year. I guess time flies. I will try to post more here, maybe 🙂

The Greeting Cards Stores

There are 3 of them. American Greetings, Things Remembered, And Hallmark. Hallmark is a nice store with the famous ornaments. There stores are nice and small. American Greetings are almost the same as hallmark, but some of there stores seem old and dated. They have not been updated in some time it seems. Things remembered is a good store too. They lack in some departments that rival hallmark has though. Comment below your opinion!

Sears Tour: Smith Haven Mall

Today we are reviewing sears at the smith haven mall on long island new york. The store is very nice and we’ll stocked. The lines are fairly long at this sears as there are very few registers open in the whole store. The store is 2 floors. There is no electronics department at this sears besides appliances and a couple of cell phones for sale. That is the review of the sears in the smith haven mall.

Borders BookStores: What Happened?

Borders. It’s just a thing of the past in my mind now. But just a couple of years ago, they were a big bookstore chain. Let’s look at the history of Borders now. Borders Bookstore was founded in 1971. In 1991, Kmart bought Borders for a whopping $125 million dollars! Kmart later spun off Borders. But in february 2011, Borders filed for bankruptcy protection. The final stores shut down in 2011. Even though the stores are gone, some assets were bought at the auction including the name borders. But what went wrong? It all started in the mid 1990s. They decided to go big in CD music sales and DVD, as the music and dvd industry just started going digital. Also, rival barnes and noble was pulling back CD and DVD sales. Borders, instead of improving their online presence, Borders expanded their physical plant, remodeling their stores, and they also handed their online operations to amazon I believe. According to Peter Wahlstrom who tracks barnes and noble,”In our view, that was more like handing the keys over to a direct competitor,”. That’s what they he thought for amazon running the website. The last time Borders made a profit was in 2006.Then in 2011 they filed for bankruptcy protection and 2 liquidators liquidated the company. So That’s The History Of Borders BookStore.
